TOP 10 COMEDY MOIVIES IN INDIA (Bollywood)





The term Bollywood is often incorrectly used to refer to the whole of Indian cinema; however, it is only a part of the large Indian film industry which produces movies in Hindi language. Here we present to you the top 10 comedy movies from Bollywood.


1) Hera Pheri (2000)
The film did not open well upon release, but picked up later and became a box office success, grossing Rs. 17,25,00,000 in India. Much of the acclaim went to Paresh Rawal for his comic timing and acting, with critics calling it "one of his best performances ever". Over the years it has become a cult classic. On IMDb.com the film has received good public rating of 8.5/10.



2) Gol Maal (1979)
It is a comedy movie directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.Along with getting high accolades and praise from several critics, the film became a "Blockbuster" at the box office and gained huge popularity among the masses. Gol Maal, becoming a "Mega Hit" reached the top spot in 1979 in terms of box office collections


3) Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003)
It went on to win the 2004 National Film Award for Best Popular Film, and several Filmfare awards, including the Critics Award for Best Movie and Best Screenplay. It was declared a 'Hit' at the Indian Box office.The original choice for Circuit's role was Makrand Deshpande. Arshad Warsi took over the role which proved to be a turning point for his career. The scenes of the Medical College were shot at the Agriculture College of Pune and Grant Medical College Mumbai.


4) Andaz Apna Apna (1994)
This film was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, starring Aamir khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor and Paresh Rawal in the lead roles. Mehmood, Govinda and Juhi Chawla make guest appearances.The film didn't do well at box-office. However, in subsequent years, it has achieved a cult status among Indian audiences.Each dialogue and character of the movie are immensely likeable and have terrific recall.


5) Hungama (2003)
It stars Paresh Rawal, Aftab Shivdasani, Akshay Khanna and Rimi Sen.The story of a bunch of misfits whose misconception about each others backgrounds end up in a series of chaotic, yet comic outcomes. It was an adaptation of Priyadarshan's own 1984 film Poochakkoru Mookkuthi; which itself was based on Charles Dickens' play, The Strange Gentleman.


6) Welcome (2007)
The film features a large ensemble cast of Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Katrina Kaif, Paresh Rawal, Malika Sherawat and Feroz Khan in last film appearance. Welcome opened to a massive response locally, by grossing INR350 million (US$5.7 million) on its opening week. The worldwide gross was around INR1.16 billion (US$19 million).



7) Golmaal (2006)
The film stars Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi, Tusshar Kapoor and Rimi Sen in lead roles. The film spawned an sequel titled Golmaal Returns, which released on 29 October 2008. On 5 November 2010, the third sequel titled Golmaal 3 was released, which broke many records. The storyline was inspired by the Malayalam film Kakkakuyil.


8) Chup Chup Ke (2006)
The film has Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Shakti Kapoor, Om Puri and Anupam Kher. Kareena Kapoor has no lines whatsoever, because her character is a mute. The film has Paresh Rawal's character being in debt to Gujarati businessmen. Within the film, his character takes many cracks at Gujaratis in general. In reality, Rawal is a Gujarati and has often played characters of Gujarati background.



9) Padosan (1968)
The movie stars Sunil Dutt and Saira Banu are in the lead roles. Kishore Kumar, Mukri, Raj Kishore and Keshto Mukherjee played the supporting roles.The film was a remake of 1960 Tamil film Adutha Veettu Penn. Kishore Kumar's character in the film was inspired by the personality of his uncle, Dhananjay Banerjee (a classical singer)



10) Hulchul (2004)
It is a satirical portrayal of the post-modern Indian woman's self-image, self-confidence, self-victimization, and self-empowerment. The film has a huge star cast including Akshaye Khanna, Kareena Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Sunil Shetty, Amrish Puri, Paresh Rawal, Jackie Shroff, Arbaaz Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Farha Naaz, and Laxmi. This was one of the last films Amrish Puri appeared in before he died.
