TOP 10 PLACES TO VISIT IN ALLAHABAD





1) Triveni Sangam 
In Hindu tradition Triveni Sangam is the "confluence" of three rivers. Sangama is the Sanskrit word for confluence. The point of confluence is a sacred place for Hindus. A bath here is said to flush away all of one's sins and free one from the cycle of rebirth. A place of religious importance and the site for historic Kumbh Mela held every 12 years, over the years it has also been the site of immersion of ashes of several national leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi in 1948. 


2) Allahabad Fort 
The fort stands on the banks of the Yamuna near its confluence with the river Ganges. It is the largest fort built by Akbar. In its prime, the fort was unrivaled for its design, construction and craftsmanship. This huge fort has three galleries flanked by high towers. In 1798, the Fort was captured by The East India Company.  

3) Khusro Bagh 
It is a large walled garden, close to the Allahabad Junction Station, surrounding the tombs of Khusrau Mirza (died 1622), eldest son of emperor Jahangir, Shah Begum, Khusrau's mother (died 1604), a Rajput princess and Jahangir's first wife, and that of Princess Sultan Nithar Begam (died c.1624), Khusrau's sister. 


4) Jawahar Planetarium  
It was built in 1979 and is situated besides Anand Bhavan the former residence of the Nehru-Gandhi family and now a museum. It is managed by the 'Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund' (estb. 1964), which has its headquarters at Teen Murti House, New Delhi.  


 5) Allahabad Museum 
It is known for its rich collection and unique objects of art, and is funded by Ministry of Culture. Ancient sculpture from Mathura, Bhumra, Jamsot, Terracottas of Kausambi; Rajasthani Miniatures; Paintings of Nicholas Roerich and those of the Bengal School of Art, autobiography of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru; manuscripts of well-known Hindi authors, .32 bore Colt pistol of Chandra Shekhar Azad and the 'Gandhi Smrithi Vahan' are some unique items among the collection in the museum. 


6) Swaraj Bhavan 
It was owned by Indian political leader Motilal Nehru in the 19th century, it has served as the ancestral home of the Nehru-Gandhi Family, Indira Gandhi was born here. In 1900, Motilal Nehru, a prominent lawyer, bought a palatial residence at 1 Church Road, Allahabad, for a sum of 19,000 Rupees. The house was in complete disrepair, extensive renovation work was carried out on this place. 


7) Anand Bhavan 
It is a historic house museum. It was constructed by Indian political leader Motilal Nehru in the 1930s to serve as the residence of the Nehru family when the original mansion Swaraj Bhavan (previously called Anand Bhavan) was transformed into the local headquarters of the Indian National Congress.  


8) Alfred Park/Chandrasekhar Azad Park 
It  is a public park in Allahabad. It was built in 1870 to mark Prince Alfred's visit to the city, with an area of 133 acres, it is the biggest park in Allahabad. Originally and still famously the park is known as Alfred Park. 


9) Someshwar Mahadev Temple 
It is an ancient temple dedicated to Shankar. Shiva is regarded as one of the primary forms of God. He is the Supreme God within Shaivism, one of the three most influential denominations in contemporary Hinduism. 


10) Thornhill Mayne Memorial 
It was designed by Richard Roskell Bayne and the construction was completed in 1870, it is a remarkable example of Scottish Baronial architecture. It was funded by Commissioner of Allahabad, Mr. Mayne and was opened as a memorial to Cuthbert Bensley Thornhill. The monument has served as the house of legislative assembly in British era when Allahabad was the capital of United Provinces. In 1879, the Public library was shifted to the present premises at Alfred Park. It has about 75,000 books, besides a treasure trove of manuscripts and journals.
