Udupi is a district/city in the south-west Indian State of Karnataka. Udupi is also known as Rajata Peetha and Shivalli, a centre of pilgrimage, is situated about 58 km north of Mangalore and about 422 km north-west of Bangalore.  


1) Sri Krishna Mutt 
It is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to god Krishna. Surrounding the Sri Krishna mutt there are several temples, This mutt was founded by the Vaishnavite saint Shri Madhwacharya in the 13th century. The Paryaya festival is held on even years like 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. Legend has it that once Kanakadasa, a pious worshiper and devotee of Lord Krishna, was not allowed to enter into the temple, he prayed with intense devotion, Lord Krishna was so pleased that the statue turned back to where Kanakadasa was praying, and the wall before Kanakadasa broke up to allow him to gaze upon his heavenly form at the back of the mutt. Till today devotees worship Lord Krishna by praying through the same window that Kanakadasa was blessed with a view, this window is known as Kanakanakindi.  


2) Chaturmukha Basadi 
On the slopes of rocky hill at Karkala in Udupi district stands one of the astounding architectural masterpiece- Chaturmukha Basadi. It has four identical pillared entrances from four directions. All four entrances lead to the main hall called Garbhagriha. Enclosed in Garbhagriha are idols of "YakshiPadmavati" and 24th Jaina Tirthankara.  


3) Malyadi Bird Sanctuary 
It is a blessing for bird lovers, there has been numerous sightings of birds like Whistiling Teals, Purple Moorhen, White Ibis, Comb duck, Carmorants and Darters. This place which is spread over 1.5 sq. kms area is actually an abandoned clay query. Over the past few years the number of birds visiting this place has increased greatly, making this premise an upcoming centre for many bird lovers.  


4) Gangolli Beach 
Its location is a distinguishing feature, it is lined by the river Panchgangavali to the East and Arabian Sea lies on its West. Sunset view on this beach is a must if you ever visit this place.  


5) St. Lawrence Church 
It is a Roman Catholic church in Karkala. This church being widely acclaimed as having the power to intercede with God, attracts not only the residents of Udupi District but also pilgrims from all parts of India.  


6) Gomateshwar Statue  
It is carved out of a single stone, at a height of 42 feet, it is the second tallest statue in the state of Karnataka. Every twelve years, hundreds of thousands of Jain devotees congregate to perform the Mahamastakabhisheka, a ceremony where the Gommateshwara statue is bathed and anointed with milk, water, and saffron paste and sprinkled with sandalwood powder, turmeric, and vermilion.  


7) Kapu Beach 
The main attraction of Kapu beach is the Light House that is situated on the shore. The kapu light house was built in 1901 and has for these many years stood on the rocks guiding thousands of sailors and warning the presence of dangerous rocks. The beach is around 1.5 kilometres from Kaup bus depot. This beach is well kept and clean.  


8) St. Mary's Island 
It is also known as Coconut Island and Thonsepar, it is a set of four small islands in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Malpe.The islands form one of the four geological monuments in Karnataka state.The Islands are bereft of buildings, fences, shops. There are only covered pavilions with park benches on the shore and further inland. Visitors can wander around freely and enjoy the hexagonal formations from vantage locations.  


9) Kere Basadi  
It offers a magnificent sight as it is built in the middle of a pond. The whole structure is built on a star shaped platform. It has four entrances from four directions. On the outside, there is a separate "PradakshinaPatha" and "Garbhagudi". It is believed that the idols in the "Garbhagudi" belong to the 12th century.  


10) Sri Amratheshwari Temple 
This temple is somewhat different, amazing..well I dont have words to express what i saw over there. Shiv lingas can be seen to emerge from the ground and according to the locals the linga grows in size over time. This temple is situated Near Bus Stand Kota Post, Udupi and a must visit if you are in Udipi.

Goa is India's smallest state by area and the fourth smallest by population. 1) The 3 Kings Church 
According to the local people, this church is haunted by the spirits of 3 Portuguese king, who once lived here in the state of Goa. King Holger Alvunger, one of the kings had invited the other two kings in the palace. He poisoned them and both died in the palace, After some time, King Holger Alvunger also committed suicide by consuming poison. king holgers palace is the current 3 kings church in Goa, where there have been reports of sightings and general unrest.  


2) Saligao village (Christalina) 
According to the locals, Once Padre Lourenço(1953) had gone for a walk around the seminary road, but that particular night he did not return. As there was no sign of him, some of the workers went in search of him. They found him quite close to the infamous banyan tree believed to be haunted by Christalina’s ghost, flat on the ground with his face in the mud. They shouted for help and their companions came with the jeep. They carried him to the jeep, drove to the residence and placed the good priest in his bed. All along he remained speechless and motionless. Then someone shouted ‘Christalina’ and the news spread like wildfire in the entire village of Saligao and the neighbouring villages that Padre Lourenço was possessed by the ghost of Christalina.  


3) Jakni Bandh, Navelim 
According to a legend once a bus full of school children went over the little culvert that helped the road link between Navelim and Dramapur. All the children's and other passenger on the bus died, it is rumoured that the haunting wailing and crying sounds of children on that bus can still be heard in the dead of the night.  


4) The D’Mello House, Santemol 
This story is about two brothers, who had a dispute on how the ancestral property will be divided amongst them. The two brothers entered into violent exchanges which ultimately resulted in one of the brother’s death. It has been since rumoured that the estate which was in dispute will never be in peace.  


5) Baytakhol  
This place between Dhavali and Bori, has witnessed a number of paranormal activities in the past and it still continues to witness them. Here a girl has been sighted by many people who stands in the middle of the road and screams, the sound made by the girl is eerie and when anybody tries to look back the girl vanishes away as fog. This has resulted in many accidents in this area.  


6) Igorchem Bandh, Raia 
Have you ever wondered how all the haunting experiences are encountered after the dawn. Well this one is out of the charts as people have felt this midday haunting. One location that serves as an example of this uncommon happening is the Igorchem Bandh in Raia. Aptly named due to its geographical position behind the church of Our Lady of Snows, the bandh is known to be a famous site for the possession of many people. Legend has it that the crossing of the bandh at around 2 pm in the afternoon leads to ‘uncontrolled murmuring’.

According to the sources, this hotel was built by Russians but due to a legal twist they had to leave the country and their half-built hotel project behind. This place has reported many ghost sightings.

10) NH17(Mumbai-Goa Highway) 
There is an old saying that do not carry meat while traveling, especially after 2 in the night. One such incident happened at NH17. A couple was carrying Chicken and other meat items in their car, they were peacefully driving when suddenly the lights went on and off and the car was out of their control. They somehow manged to pull over the car and got out of it. The doors automatically closed and after an hour the doors opened and they saw a black smoke coming out of their car. They didn't get into the car till sunrise. When they got into the car next morning they found out that all the food was gone..

It is a type of meat dish from Rajasthan. It is a mutton curry prepared in a sauce of curd and hot spices such as red chillies. Traditionally, Lal Maans used to be made with boar or deer meat, chillies were used to veil the gamy odour of the meat.

9) Kalakand (Mishri Mawa)

It originated in the 1950s, in the kitchens of Moti Mahal in Daryaganj, Delhi. This dish is close to getting extinct from Mangalorean kitchens. It is  because most Mangaloreans have scattered all across the globe and finding the key ingredient to make the Pathrade - Pathradyache Kolay or Alwache Kolay (Colocasia Leaves) is difficult, the leaves are shredded and mixed with rice batter, Teak tree leaves (Sagoni in Konkani, Saaguvani in Kannada,Satgun in Hindi) are used in which this mixture is packed and then steamed in a steamer. 


7) Neer Dosa 
It is a delicacy from Tulu nadu region, 'Neer' is the word for water in Tulu. It is called as poo-pole in beary language, and thellin dose in Kundapura Kannada. Rice is soaked in water for 3 to 4 hours. It is then ground to make a runny rice batter. Most types of dosa require the batter to be fermented for a few hours or even a day. However, fermentation can be skipped while preparing a neer dosa. Salt is added. A thin layer of batter is poured onto a heated flat griddle (tawa) greased with oil. The batter is spread with the base of a ladle or bowl to form a pancake. It is flipped to heat both crusts and removed from the griddle when the crust becomes dry. It is served hot. 


8) Bisi Bele Bath 
It is a rice-based dish with its origins in the state of Karnataka, India. Bisi-bele-bhaath translates to hot lentil rice in the Kannada language. It is also known as Bisi bele huliyanna., which means "hot lentil sour rice". The traditional preparation of this dish is quite elaborate and involves the use of spicy masala, toor dal (a type of lentil) and vegetables. Spices like nutmeg and asafoetida, curry leaves and tamarind pulp used in its preparation contribute to the unique flavour and taste of this dish. It is served hot and sometimes eaten along with salad, papad or potato chips. 


9) Rasam 
Also called Chaaru or Saaru or Kabir is a South Indian soup, traditionally prepared using tamarind juice as a base, with the addition of tomato, chili pepper, pepper, cumin and other spices as seasonings. Steamed lentils are added along with any preferred vegetables.       


10) Payasa

It forms part of the typical Maharashtrian cuisine and has in the last two decades become quite popular amongst the more cosmopolitan city dwellers as well. It consists of “Pitla,” a pasty-looking dish prepared from the powdered version of “Dal,” a popular pulse. Pitla is usually eaten with “Bhakri,” a bread made from either “Jowar” or “Bajra,” both of which are cereals.

“Sabudana” is a local food base prepared from the latex of of the Sago Palm. The ready-to-eat dish prepared from it is known as “Khichdi,” which roughly mean “mixture.” Sabudana Khichdi is a popular breakfast item and is one of the few food products that are allowed to be eaten when Maharashtrians undertake holy-fasting known in Marathi as “Upaas.” 


8) Kothimbir Vadi 
Coriander (Cilantro) mixed with chick pea flour and Maharashtrian spices. There are plenty of variants of this dishes some deep fried, some stir fried and some steamed.It is the maharashtrian equivalent of dhokla and quite tasty. 


9) Puran Poli 
It is also known as Puran Puri, Boli, Bobbattu, Holige, Obbattu, Ubbatti, Poli and by many other names. It is a traditional type of sweet flatbread. The puran is made by boiling chickpea lentils with a pinch of turmeric for color. When the lentils are cooked and soft, the broth is removed and kept aside. Jaggery is added to the chickpeas and cooked till they are soft. Then the stuffing is removed and sieved through a utensil made specifically for puran to achieve a smoother consistency. Saffron, cardamom, and nutmeg is added for additional flavor. The outer cover is made by making a dough by mixing refined flour, milk and ghee. Equal number of balls are made of the dough as well as the stuffing. The puran is stuffed inside the dough and then rolled out flat using a rolling pin. The poli is then cooked on a hot griddle and served with ghee and a soup made from the syrup. 


10) Shrikhand 
It is an Indian sweet dish made of strained yogurt. Preparation of this dish is very simple but it takes some time to process yogurt properly. To prepare shrikhand, yogurt is tied in a cotton cloth and left under pressure to drain. The strained yogurt, referred to as "Chakka", and sugar are mixed thoroughly in a deep bowl. Cardamom, saffron, and any other flavors are then added and mixed. It is then left in the refrigerator for the sugar to dissolve. The dish is served chilled.

1) Woh Kaun Thi? (1964) 
It is a black-and-white Psychological Mystery film directed by Raj Khosla, starring Sadhana, Manoj Kumar and Prem Chopra. The movie revolves around a doctor who is haunted by the spirit of a young and beautiful girl..  


2) Raat (1992) 
It was directed by Ram Gopal Varma starring Revathi. Upon release the film received positive reviews and remained a cult classic. The story is on a family of four who move into a house that is allegedly haunted..  


3) Neel Kamal (1968)
